Fort Mill man, 22, has been identified as the individual fatally shot by a York County deputy.

A 22-year-old Fort Mill man, Allen Josue Topete-Guevara, was fatally shot by a York County sheriff’s deputy on Friday around 9:20 a.m. on Pine Ridge Court near U.S. 21 south of Carowinds. Deputies had responded to a call about an unconscious person not breathing; upon arrival, Topete-Guevara was conscious, armed with a knife, and had barricaded himself in a room.

Incident Details

The deputy ordered him to drop the knife and exit, but Topete-Guevara opened the door, refused to disarm, and charged at the deputy, who then fired the fatal shots. No deputies were injured, and the involved deputy is on paid administrative leave per policy. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the officer-involved shooting, with no updates from SLED as of Sunday afternoon.

Family Response

Topete-Guevara’s family set up a GoFundMe describing his death as a “tragic and unjust loss,” noting his Honduran ties and need for repatriation costs to his mother there. The fundraiser highlights his youth, dreams, and love from family and friends. York County Sheriff’s Office released a statement late Friday confirming the knife threat and sequence of events.
