Charleston, South Carolina – Former residents and families at Cooper River Farms apartments are concerned about their health due to the state of their residences.
When they spoke up about discovering what they considered to be a mold-like material, management replied with legal threats.
What began as severe allergy and asthma attacks led one homeowner to discover what they think to be a mold-like substance in several areas throughout their flat.
“Honestly, I couldn’t believe my eyes. “I was shocked,” former resident Alixandra Ross remarked.
A soon-to-be mother expressed alarm at the discovery.
“Now that I am finally pregnant, all I want to do is safeguard my kid. “And then finding out about the mold in the apartment was such a shock,” Ross explained.
Ross was not alone. Other residents were dealing with the same issue.
“I knew I wasn’t alone. “This was a bigger issue,” Ross explained.
Multiple residents communicated with management and stated that they do not believe there was a sufficient mold inspection or documentation.
“If there was nothing hazardous in the apartment, they would have just provided the letter. So, that tells me either there is something seriously wrong, as seen by the photographs and videos, or they never hired a mold inspector in the first place,” Ross said.
Concerned residents wrote online reviews about their experience at Cooper River Farms, which were followed by cease-and-desist letters.
“I don’t appreciate being told to stop and your defaming people when we’re just telling the truth,” said the mother of former resident Robbie Michaels.
One resident received an eviction letter after leaving a review.
“The most scary aspect was my downstairs neighbor. Ross added that once she placed the truth on Google, she was handed a 14-day notice to evacuate.
The former residents said they only wanted responsibility and proper action from management.
“They ignored, got a lawyer, and haven’t done anything about it,” Ross informed me.
Ross also stated that people’s health should not be ignored.
“If they were in that situation, or if their loved ones, such as their daughter or mother, suffered from it. How would people feel if they were ignored, threatened to be quiet, had their reviews removed, and were silenced?” Ross stated.
Cooper River Farms has not issued a statement about these issues. Live 5 News has contacted the management and their lawyers for comment.
“You can’t simply dismiss this, and it’s unacceptable that you’re not responding or accepting responsibility for it. We don’t want money or anything. “We want them to address it and take care of the other residents,” Michaels stated.
“I truly believe that they don’t care,” Ross stated.
The former occupants aim to help future inhabitants from going through what they did.
