A key railway in North Charleston has reopened after emergency repair work was completed. The area between Southrail Road and Palmetto Commerce Parkway on Ashley Phosphate Road, near Rivers Avenue and Dorchester Road, is now accessible again.

Norfolk Southern Shuts Down Crossing for Repairs

Norfolk Southern, the railway operator, temporarily shut down the crossing in both directions for two days to carry out urgent repairs. The company stated that the repairs were necessary to maintain critical rail infrastructure and ensure safe and efficient operations.

Work Timeline

The repair work began on July 30 at around 9 a.m., with crews working diligently to restore the railway to operational status as quickly as possible. After two days of repair efforts, the railway and the surrounding area were cleared for use again.

With the railway now back in service, traffic and transportation in North Charleston should return to normal. Norfolk Southern’s quick response and repair efforts ensured minimal disruption to the critical rail infrastructure in the area.
