Florence, South Carolina — Florence police are investigating why a young girl was discovered alone Wednesday afternoon in the 400 block of Church Street.
Someone discovered the 2- or 3-year-old girl alone and notified authorities, who were able to promptly identify her mother, police said.
“We have located the mother of the child,” police added. “Yes, we will be investigating the circumstances of why the child was alone.”
Before discovering the mother, Florence police sent a notification to media outlets around 3 p.m., stating that the girl was safe and asking for help identifying her. At the time, police stated that no one had contacted them, and they had no idea who she was. About 15 minutes later, authorities reported finding the girl’s mother.
