JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Firefighters with St. John’s Fire District battled a house fire on a remote island near Johns Island twice in a single day. The initial response came early Tuesday morning, followed by a return call late that night, both resulting in significant damage to the home.
First Fire and Response Efforts
The first call came around 6 a.m. Tuesday when a fire spread near an indoor fireplace. Firefighters responded promptly, but one resident sustained minor injuries. Due to the remote location of the home, firefighters had no vehicle access and had to rely on a marine vessel to establish a water supply. Hoses were extended down a long dock, and golf carts were used to transport equipment across the island.
Second Fire Destroys Home, Investigation Underway
Later that night, crews were called back to the home around 11 p.m. for a reported structure fire. Unfortunately, the second fire destroyed the house, although no injuries were reported. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives have joined the investigation into the cause of both fires.
