The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to attend a special service honoring one of its K-9 officers.

Celebration of Life Planned

A Celebration of Life Service for K-9 Ares will be held on April 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the Ashley River Park Pavilion in Summerville.

Officials say the event is intended to recognize Ares’ service and the impact he had on the community.

Honoring a K-9 Officer’s Service

Sheriff Sam Richardson said K-9 Ares served with dedication throughout his time with the department.

“He served with honor, protected with courage, and gave his all alongside his handlers and fellow deputies,” Richardson said in a statement.

Community Invited to Attend

The sheriff’s office is encouraging community members, along with law enforcement partners, to attend the service.

Officials say the gathering will provide an opportunity for the public to pay tribute and reflect on Ares’ contributions.

Lasting Legacy

The department says Ares’ legacy will continue through the work of the sheriff’s office and the K-9 unit.

The service aims to bring together the community to honor that legacy and show appreciation for his role in public safety.
