A railroad crossing at the entrance to the Otranto subdivision on Otranto Blvd. in Hanahan, S.C., will be temporarily closed for emergency repairs this week. The work is being done by CSX in cooperation with Berkeley County.
When and where the closure applies
- The crossing on Otranto Blvd. between Rivers Ave. and N. Basilica Ave. is scheduled to close from 9 a.m. Thursday, April 9, to 5 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026.
- During that time, traffic will not be allowed to cross the railroad tracks at that location until the repairs are fully complete.

- Detour signs have been posted to direct drivers around the closed crossing, and a digital message board is active at the site to alert drivers and reinforce the closure.
- Berkeley County officials say the schedule is subject to change due to weather or other unexpected conditions, and people are encouraged to plan alternate routes and avoid the area until the work finishes.
