Charleston County, South Carolina — Over the last three years, News 4 photographer Brian Heins and I have journeyed throughout the Lowcountry to unearth the creepy legends and ghostly history that distinguish this region – all as part of our Creepy Carolina series.
Our first Creepy Carolina episode aired in October 2022, and it featured a visit to the Old City Jail in downtown Charleston, where we investigated the horrific legend of Lavinia Fisher, also known as America’s first female serial murderer.
We boarded the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant to learn about the mysterious disappearance of a pilot.
We’ve also been to 20 South Battery, a historic inn in downtown Charleston, where visitors and staff have recounted experiences with pleasant ghosts said to linger in rooms 8 and 10.
However, not every Creepy Carolina has featured real-life hauntings! In 2023, we visited communities in the Lowcountry to highlight families who go all out for Halloween with spooky decorations and unique displays.
We also visited Hemingway, South Carolina, where you can have a delicious lunch with a paranormal twist at Wylie’s on Main, a restaurant famous for whispers, moving objects, and a few ghostly guests.
Downtown Charleston is a center for ghost stories. Charleston Terrors told stories about some of the Holy City’s most famed and haunted locales.
If you want to see Charleston’s eerie side from a new angle, you may book a haunted carriage ride with Palmetto Carriage Works, our latest Creepy Carolina adventure, which will be available soon.
Keep up with Creepy Carolina on broadcast and online as we explore the Lowcountry’s history, mystery, and haunting.
