Ladson, South Carolina – The Coastal Carolina Fair will open in two days and feature 65 rides spread across 180 acres, including two new attractions that are quicker and taller than prior offerings.
According to Jay Wallace of the Coastal Carolina Fair, the fair’s attractions include a 120-foot drop ride and a rollercoaster that spins at 80mph.
“A 120-foot drop.” Now, you’ve seen these things, correct? The massive enormous pole. You gradually work your way up, and then bang. The kids adore it. “The screams are numerous,” Wallace said. “We’ve got that and a ride that twirls 80 miles an hour.”
Deep-fried pickles with Nashville Hot and a Pig Trough dessert are among the new menu offerings.
“Deep-fried pickles coated in Nashville Hot. “That’s a big one,” Wallace stated. “Then our very own local Ye Ole Fashioned has what they term a Pig Trough, which is made up of many divided components. There are several ice cream toppings and scoops available. It will be extremely delicious.”
Community impact
The fair has been hosted at the Ladson fairgrounds since 1979, after beginning in 1957. Fair organizers estimate that the annual turnout is reaching 300,000 people.
According to Wallace, last year’s fair returned $947,000 to the Tri-County area, which includes Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.
Entertainment and Logistics
Admission tickets grant admission to fairgrounds entertainment, whereas wristbands are necessary for rides. The fair has a rodeo Monday through Wednesday, three stages, a sea lion show, a petting zoo, and a creative arts building.
Parking options include fee-based pedicabs and VIP parking at the main gate, which must be reserved in advance via the website. To ensure security, the fair enforces a clear bag policy.
The fair organizers do not hire strollers or wheelchairs on the grounds. Visitors are welcome to bring their own.
