If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, now is the perfect time. The Charleston Animal Society (CAS) is waiving all adoption fees starting Friday, in celebration of the final weekend of the NBC Clear the Shelters campaign.
This once-a-year event is one of the most anticipated in the Lowcountry, with dozens of dogs, cats, and other animals ready to find their forever homes — and all of them waiting for someone just like you.
All Adoption Fees Waived – For Every Pet
Every animal adopted from CAS this weekend will come vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. There’s no cost to adopt — just the promise to give them a loving home.
“In celebration of this crescendo event of Clear the Shelters… we are waiving all adoption fees,” said Aldwin Roman, Vice President and Chief Operating Manager of CAS.
Whether you’re looking for a playful pup for your kids, an energetic companion for your morning runs, or a cuddly couch buddy, there’s a pet for every kind of home.
“We have animals that love kids, some that need active owners, and even those happy to just nap all day,” said Will Howell, Associate Director of Marketing at CAS.
Can’t Adopt? You Can Still Help
Even if you’re not ready to adopt, there are plenty of other ways to support Charleston Animal Society and the animals in their care:
Foster a pet short-term
Volunteer at the shelter or help with office work
Donate to support animal care
Buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win big prizes
Win a 2025 Subaru Ascent – And Help Animals in Need
Thanks to generous donors and Crews Subaru, CAS is raffling off a 2025 Subaru Ascent to help raise money for the care of over 250 animals, including fan favorites like Ricky Bobby, Macaroni, and Honey Bunney.
“We have seven amazing prizes, including the Subaru Ascent donated by board members Hank and Laurel Greer, and up to $20,000 in cash prizes,” said Howell.
Every raffle ticket purchased helps provide shelter, food, and medical care for animals waiting to be adopted.
Clear the Shelters Special Coverage

Visit the Charleston Animal Society
The Charleston Animal Society is open daily this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and their team is ready to help you find the perfect pet. If you don’t find the right match at the main shelter, they’ll help connect you to animals at their Berkeley campus or partner shelters also taking part in the adoption event.
This weekend is more than just a pet adoption event — it’s a community effort to give hundreds of animals a second chance at love. Whether you adopt, foster, donate, or simply spread the word, your support helps ensure that every pet finds a home. Don’t miss this opportunity to change a life — maybe even your own.
