CARTA concludes the fifth season of its complimentary Beach Reach Shuttle service

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The CARTA Beach Reach Shuttle Service is concluding its fifth season of providing free transportation to the Isle of Palms beach, with services ending on Labor Day, September 1. The service, offered every weekend since May 24, has been made possible through contributions from the Town of Mount Pleasant and the City of Isle of Palms.

A Convenient Option for Visitors

Tourists like Brittany Bouwkamp, visiting from out of town, found the shuttle to be an ideal solution. “It was so nice. It gave me peace of mind, and I could easily go from Towne Center to the beach. The lady I met yesterday, who volunteers her time as a driver, was so sweet,” she shared.

Regular Service Throughout the Summer

The shuttle ran every weekend, with Saturday services starting at 9:15 a.m., and the last trip from the beach at 5:30 p.m. On Sundays, rides began at 9:30 a.m., with the final pick-up at 5:55 p.m. The service has been a convenient, cost-effective way for both locals and tourists to get to the beach without the hassle of finding parking.

Positive Feedback from Local Riders

Amy Leonard, a Lowcountry resident, echoed similar sentiments, praising the shuttle for its convenience. “I love the shuttle. I’ve ridden it several times through the summer. It’s so easy to just hop on with your cooler and beach chair,” she said. She added, “It’s perfect. You don’t have to hunt for parking. Plus, it’s air-conditioned and comfortable.”

The Shuttle Route

The shuttle picks up passengers at Stop 715 at Towne Centre/Market Center Boulevard and goes directly to Isle of Palms. For visitors like Bouwkamp, the shuttle offered an easy alternative to walking long distances. “I saw the time I could get picked up and instead of walking six miles, I only had to go three,” she said.

Looking Ahead to Next Summer

With Labor Day marking the last day of service, riders like Leonard are hopeful that more people will take advantage of the free shuttle next summer. “I hope next summer people spread the word that it’s free, convenient, and awesome,” she said.

As the season wraps up, the CARTA Beach Reach Shuttle remains a beloved service for both locals and visitors alike, offering a stress-free way to enjoy the beach without worrying about parking.
