Ladson, South Carolina — The Coastal Carolina Fair is finally back, bringing all of the attractions, live music, and fan-favorite dishes that have made this festival an autumn institution throughout the Lowcountry.
Join Dalilah James and Jameson Moyer as they explore the various dishes available at this year’s fair in the latest episode of Serving Up Flavor.
Local merchants, notably Edisto Coffee, are preparing for a busy last week by producing their famed Dubai Belgian waffles.
“Be prepared and arrive early to avoid long lines.” Bobby Ploughe of Edisto Coffee remarked, “Our boba tea and waffles are amazing.” “Everyone comes early for coffee and then it turns into waffles, so I can already feel like it’s going to be an awesome week.”
From meat sundaes to bacon brownies, electric slushes, and international waffles, merchants guarantee to satiate any craving. Fair classics remain a prominent feature… including a local favorite, Ye Ole Fashion Ice Cream.
“When you think of the fair, you sort of think of over-the-top items,” said Lyndsey Bramlett of Ye Ole Fashion Ice Cream. “So, we decided to do our double banana split traditional, ye old fashion what everybody knows and loves.”
For those seeking for something a little more experimental, one vendor is pushing the limits of dessert by combining sweet and salty in a big Southern way.
“This maple bacon brownie is a fudgy brownie with maple and bacon glaze, and I just wanted to be different for the fair because everything else is either deep fried or just different,” said China King, founder of Sweet but not So Sweet.
Not all merchants rush tourists to eat straight soon; others recommend making a night of it.
“You should definitely go see some sea lions, then grab a steak sundae, walk 50 yards, and become a cowboy at the fair,” said Ryan Hagy of Deanna’s Steak Sundaes.
The Coastal Carolina Fair closes on November 9th, allowing family plenty of time to ride, explore, and taste their way around every corner of the carnival.
