Berkeley County, South Carolina. — According to officials, a middle school kid is facing charges after allegedly bringing a loaded weapon to campus on Monday morning.

The Berkeley County School District issued a letter to parents in the middle of the morning, stating that administrators had been warned that a student may have carried a firearm.

The school was temporarily closed, the student was located and led out of the classroom with the assistance of police authorities, and a loaded gun was confiscated from them, according to officials.

“Safety and security is our top priority, and we take all safety reports seriously,” the district’s message stated. “Please continue to encourage your children to report any concerns they may have to a school staff member so that an appropriate inquiry and action can be taken to guarantee their safety on campus. We applaud students that assist keep our campus safe.”

According to authorities, the firearm, a Spring Field Armory 9mm handgun, was concealed in the student’s waistline. It was equipped with a single magazine holding 11 bullets.

The teenager was brought into jail and charged with carrying a weapon on school property.

“Bringing a weapon to school will not be tolerated and is a reckless and dangerous decision that puts the safety of students, staff, and the entire school community at risk,” Lee Mixon, the police chief at Moncks Corner, stated. “I am proud of how our officers responded and the commitment of our school resource officers to keep the schools safe.”

No kids were injured, and the institution has subsequently resumed regular activities.

The investigation is underway.
