Berkeley County, South Carolina — Berkeley County authorities arrested and accused two people after a two-year-old was transported to a hospital for an overdose.

Deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on McQueenshill Lane in Moncks Corner on Sunday after receiving a complaint regarding a youngster in need of emergency medical services.

When deputies arrived, they discovered that it was the second time EMS had called to the home.

According to the sheriff’s office, during the first call, Bryan Edward Connolly, 41, and Ashley Marie Romashko, 35, refused to allow the child to be taken to the hospital.

However, officials stated that on the second response, Berkeley County EMS requested assistance from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived at the home, EMS was treating the youngster, who had lost consciousness.

“As a result of the investigation, all children inside the residence were placed into Emergency Protective Custody,” the Sheriff’s Office announced.

The sheriff’s office arrested Connolly and Romashko on charges of unlawful child maltreatment. They were booked into Hill-Finklea Detention Center.
