BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — A new partnership between the Charleston Animal Society and the Berkeley County Animal Center in Moncks Corner is set to kick off on July 1, aiming to improve operations and animal care in the Lowcountry. Under the agreement, Charleston Animal Society will begin assisting with the management of operations at the Berkeley center, including animal processing, computer setups, and security installations.
Temporary Closure for Transition
In order to facilitate the transition, the Berkeley County Animal Center will be closed on July 1, with staff working to implement necessary system upgrades and procedural changes. The center will resume regular operations on July 2, ensuring minimal disruption to the public.
Strengthening Local Animal Services
According to the Charleston Animal Society, this partnership reflects more than a year and a half of careful planning and discussions between the two organizations. The collaboration is designed to address the rapid growth of the tri-county area, including an increasing population of dogs and cats in need of care. By joining forces, the two shelters hope to become more efficient and enhance their ability to save animal lives.
“With a shared commitment to animal lifesaving and community service, the partnership reflects more than a year and a half of careful planning and discussion. The tri-county area is growing fast, and that includes a rising population of dogs and cats. Joining forces with Berkeley County will make both shelters stronger together,” said the Charleston Animal Society in a release.
Looking Ahead
This partnership is expected to significantly improve the region’s ability to provide high-quality animal care and service. Both shelters aim to strengthen their operations and provide better outcomes for animals in the community, ensuring a brighter future for pets in the Lowcountry.
