After striking his wife for stopping him from driving while intoxicated, the man was detained

Spartanburg Police Department responded to a domestic violence call on Boxwood Lane after 3:50 p.m. Saturday, where 68-year-old Michael Disantos allegedly threatened and attempted to hit his wife due to disputes over cigarettes and alcohol. The wife initially declined charges, but a second assault report after 5:02 p.m. at a neighbor’s home detailed Disantos striking her nose, causing bleeding and bruising. Disantos was charged with third-degree domestic violence, showed signs of intoxication, and was booked into Spartanburg County Detention Center awaiting bond.

Initial Response

Officers found Disantos unable to stand, possibly from alcohol or prior strokes, and he denied the threats. His wife reported his anger stemmed from her consuming his items and urging rehab. Police noted no immediate fear, but the situation escalated shortly after.

Second Assault and Arrest

The wife sought help after grabbing car keys to buy cigarettes, reporting Disantos hit her face. Officers observed blood on his knuckles and floor, and he admitted to the strike while claiming she withheld keys. This led to his arrest despite her earlier reluctance to prosecute.

Current Status

Disantos appears in recent Spartanburg County bookings alongside other detainees. No updates on bond hearing or case disposition were available from public records.
