A woman who jumped from a bridge connecting Charlotte and South Carolina was rescued Friday afternoon after a multi-agency response and help from nearby boaters.
Emergency Response at Lake Wylie
Authorities say the incident happened shortly after 4 p.m. near the Buster Boyd Bridge on Lake Wylie.
Deputies from York County and officers from Mecklenburg County responded after receiving reports of a woman in the water.
Rescue Effort Involved Multiple Agencies
The York County Sheriff’s Office deployed its dive team, while Charlotte-Mecklenburg police assisted by sending a helicopter to aid in the search.
Several civilian boaters in the area also joined the effort.
Woman Pulled From Water
Officials say one of the boaters was able to locate the woman and pull her from the water.
Emergency medical crews treated her at the scene. Her condition has not been released.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not yet identified the woman or released her age. It is also unclear what led to the incident.
Traffic Unaffected
Despite the heavy emergency response, officials said traffic on the Highway 49 bridge continued to flow and was not shut down.
The bridge is a major route for commuters traveling between Charlotte and nearby South Carolina communities.
The investigation remains ongoing.
