A special moment filled with joy and heartwarming generosity took place this week at The Oaks of Daniel Island, where 100-year-old resident Phyllis Becotte had a dream come true, thanks to Crescent Hospice Care and Crosswind Farms.
The Heartwarming Wish
Ms. Becotte, who has lived a life surrounded by love and family, has always had a special affection for cows. Her caregivers at The Oaks of Daniel Island discovered her love for these animals after noticing a shelf in her apartment filled with ceramic cows that she has lovingly collected throughout her life.
“We strive to bring joy to add that quality to our hospice patient’s lives and seek to grant wishes that do just that,” said Holly Nye, community liaison for Crescent Hospice. Upon discovering Becotte’s love for cows, Nye and the hospice team thought that bringing her a real baby cow would be the perfect way to brighten her day.
A Cow Named Mulan
With the goal of making this wish a reality, Crescent Hospice Care connected with Crosswind Farms in Holly Hill. The team arranged for a special visit, bringing a baby cow named Mulan to meet Becotte. When Mulan arrived at The Oaks, it was an unforgettable moment for everyone involved.
After seeing Mulan for the first time, Nye joyfully exclaimed, “Oh, looky there!” The excitement and love for the little calf were palpable as the residents and caregivers gathered around to give Mulan some affection. Even after the fun of washing off the “cow slobber,” Becotte, with a warm smile, declared, “No, I’ll keep that.”
A Lifetime of Love and Memories
Ms. Becotte, born and raised in Niagara Falls, had a beautiful life with her late husband, whom she was married to for 56 years. The couple eventually moved to Keene, New Hampshire, where Becotte owned a gift shop. After her husband’s passing, she moved to Daniel Island to be closer to her family, who continues to surround her with love.
In February, she celebrated her 100th birthday, and she is now cherished by her son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and three great-grandchildren.
A Heartfelt
This special moment with Mulan, the baby cow, highlights the incredible impact that a simple act of kindness can have. Thanks to the team at Crescent Hospice and Crosswind Farms, Ms. Becotte was able to experience a dream come true, bringing a smile to her face and joy to those around her. It was a reminder of the importance of bringing happiness and love into the lives of others, no matter their age.
