North Augusta, South Carolina – This week’s scholar athlete comes from North Augusta High School and has mastered the art of multitasking.
Luke Waldhauer is a senior Yellow Jacket with an extensive list of student-athlete accomplishments. His sports include football, tennis, track and field, and clay target team. His academic achievements include being on the all-A honor roll with a 5.17 GPA, receiving the honors seal of distinction, becoming a future business leaders of America, joining the National Honor Society, and serving as the student worship leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Athletically, he has been a member of the Yellow Jackets football program for four years and is a founding member of the North Augusta pickleball club, among many other accomplishments. For Luke, time management is critical to his success.
“There’s clearly a time crunch. The calendar can only do so much. Being involved in so many events, as well as coordinating with my superiors about where I may be at specific times, has been a major challenge. “And especially balancing that with school,” Waldhauer stated.
“He’s quite self-driven. I’m quite proud of that fact. He indicated earlier that he keeps his calendar. His calendar is always filled, and we are mostly just there to keep him on track. He just keeps going and accomplishes a lot on his own. Luke’s father, Karl Waldhauer, confirmed that his son had his own motor.
“Flexibility and organization. Because what he does is above my ability. I was asked several times over the weekend, ‘What’s Luke doing today?’ And I say, “I have no idea.” Luke’s mother, Tara Waldhauer, remarked, “He’s always on the go.”
“He’s the ideal team player. He is ready to perform whatever is requested of him. Whatever it is to assist a teammate. Whatever it takes to help our team improve. He’s willing to do whatever it takes, and that’s one of the reasons we’re successful—we have a lot of guys like him,” said North Augusta head coach Richard Bush.
“You can’t get a punt off without a great snap. Similarly with a field goal. And he’s simply Mr. Consistent. “We can always count on him to do his job,” said assistant coach Dylan Quinn.
Luke has limited his college choices to Clemson, Georgia, or Vanderbilt, where he will study biological sciences in preparation for medical school.
