Graniteville, South Carolina — Aiken Technical College is providing a certified tower technician course in October, and qualifying South Carolina residents may be able to attend for free.
According to Aiken Tech on Wednesday, the 12-day training will take place from October 13 to 25, 2025.
Students are required to learn about telecommunications regulations and standards, jobsite danger awareness, rigging, LTE installation, and basic electrical. They will also participate in tower climbing exercises to practice skills gained in the classroom.
Athena Freeman, Director of Continuing Education at Aiken Technical College, stated, “These projects provide employment for skilled tower technicians to build, upgrade, and maintain cell towers, antennas, and related equipment.” “The current pool of trained tower technicians is small and does not meet the demand.”
Aiken Tech stated in a news release on September 17 that the course is “free of charge for eligible South Carolina residents.” Others can still enroll for $5,000.
Those interested in enrolling can contact the Aiken Tech Office of Continuing Education at (803) 508-7342 or [email protected].
The participants must meet the following requirements:
Be at least 18 years old
Have at least a high school graduation or GED, and produce verification.
Be eligible to work in the United States.
Be physically capable of carrying a body harness weighing 70 pounds.
Be committed to finishing the program.
