A fire at the Parris Island Marine base kills a pet and displaces a family

On Wednesday afternoon, firefighters battled a fire at the United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, which displaced a family and killed a family pet.

A house fire on Marsh Landing was reported at 2:52 p.m.

Chief Warrant Officer Bobby Yarbrough stated that the whole interior of the house, as well as the roof, were demolished.

A dog died in the fire, but no one was hurt inside the house. The family, however, has been displaced.

The fire was contained after roughly an hour of fighting by Marines from Parris Island and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, as well as the cities of Beaufort and Port Royal.

The Marines said the cause is under investigation.
