Anderson, South Carolina – Two people were sent to the hospital following an altercation at an Anderson church.

Anderson Fire Department reports that around 10:56 a.m. on Sunday, firefighters were dispatched to St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Anderson. According to fire officials, church members trying to make lunch attempted to light a gas burner, resulting in a small explosion in the kitchen.

Two people were rushed to the hospital with unspecified injuries, but the fire department stated that they were stable at the time of transport.

Firefighters emptied the kitchen and turned off the gas to the appliances. The kitchen sustained minor damage, but the church was able to reopen and services could resume on Sunday morning.
