Charleston County School District (CCSD) opened two new multi-million-dollar schools in North Charleston and Ladson on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to address population growth, enhance safety, and improve learning environments.

Ladson Elementary Highlights

The new $70 million, 110,000-square-foot Ladson Elementary serves up to 900 students in grades 1-5, funded by the Penny Sales Tax Program since 2023. Executive Director Jasmeen Shaw noted doubled stacking capacity to reduce traffic on Ladson Road, plus cutting-edge life safety technology. Principal Cristina Frazzano emphasized creating a safe “home away from home” that honors the school’s 100th anniversary while fostering traditions and future growth.

Morningside Middle School

This rebuilt $66 million, 125,000-square-foot facility also accommodates 900 students in grades 6-8, expanding from a single-story to a two-story design. Shaw highlighted nearly doubled parking and space for 11 buses, improving logistics. Principal Sharon Randall described student excitement for new electives and clubs, allowing a refocus on community values after prior constraints.

Additional Facilities

CCSD also unveiled a new North Charleston Track and Field stadium, providing upgraded athletic amenities for students. These projects collectively aim to shape future leaders by offering modern spaces that prioritize safety, capacity, and engagement.
