The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) has reported two additional hypothermia-related deaths from a recent winter storm, raising the total storm fatalities to six. These include an 85-year-old man and a 91-year-old woman, both from Laurens County, with deaths occurring on January 21 and January 30, respectively.

Previous Storm Deaths

Earlier confirmations brought the count to four: a 79-year-old man in Oconee County from a slip-and-fall on ice, a 59-year-old man in Charleston County from hypothermia, plus victims in Lexington and Greenwood Counties.

Safety Guidance

Officials emphasize avoiding exposure to freezing temperatures, especially after the storm’s widespread ice and power outages. Residents should layer clothing, check on vulnerable neighbors, and limit travel on hazardous roads.
