A 12‑year‑old and a 16‑year‑old were taken into custody early Wednesday morning in North Charleston, S.C., after being accused of attempting to break into vehicles on Celtic Drive, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

What police say happened

  • Around 3:30 a.m., a resident reported seeing five or six males in dark clothing looking into cars and pulling on door handles on Celtic Drive. The group was later seen again near 4500 Mixson Avenue, with at least one suspect described as wearing red pants.
  • Officers searched the area, spotted the group near South Rhett Avenue and South Boulevard, and approached them; the suspects then ran through nearby backyards, prompting officers to set up a perimeter.

Arrests and outcome

  • The search ended with two juveniles, a 12‑year‑old and a 16‑year‑old, being captured on separate streets as they tried to flee; both were booked on attempted breaking and entering autos and later released to their parents on custodial promises to appear in court.
  • The case is still under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to submit anonymous tips through the CRIMEWATCH app.
