Charleston County, South Carolina — A North Charleston man and another woman are charged with the death of his 76-year-old mother after investigators said they failed to provide her with adequate care.
Kevin Carl Clark, 40, and Victoria Lynn Delaune, 33, were arrested on Monday after a month-long investigation into Clark’s mother, Dianne, who died in July, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers responded to a call for assistance on July 29 after Dianne Clark was discovered lifeless. She was apparently discovered in “highly unsanitary conditions” and pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.
“The victim’s immediate living space appeared to be infested with insects and deeply soiled with fecal matter, blood stains, and other bodily fluids,” according to the arrest paperwork. A bottle of prescription medication that hadn’t been filled since September 2024 was also discovered.
An autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina in early August indicated that an open wound on Clark’s lower back had grown infected. Her death was caused by sepsis from osteomyelitis, a bone infection.
The affidavit stated that Kevin Clark and Delaune admitted to being Clark’s caretakers.
They were both charged with Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult Resulting in Death and are being detained at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
