A Berkeley County deputy has been fired and charged after police say he exposed himself outside a Mount Pleasant coffee shop in broad daylight.
Berkeley County Deputy Arrested on Indecent Exposure Charge
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Wilson, 62, has been terminated from his position after being arrested by Mount Pleasant Police on a charge of indecent exposure. Jail records show he was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center on Thursday morning and released later that day after posting a $5,000 bond.
What Happened at the Coffee Shop
Police say they were called to the Mount Pleasant coffee shop around 1:17 p.m. on August 18 after a woman reported disturbing behavior from a man sitting near her.
According to the incident report:
The woman noticed a man repeatedly looking at her while she sat outside on the shop’s deck.
She then realized the man was exposing his genitals from under his cargo shorts.
The man reportedly said, “I’m sorry,” before leaving the area.
How Investigators Identified the Suspect
Officers reviewed the coffee shop’s security footage and confirmed the suspect matched the victim’s description. The video showed the man making two separate purchases at 11:36 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
Because he paid with cash, officers could not identify him directly through the register system. However, employees recognized him as a regular customer and gave police the name they believed was his.
Mount Pleasant Police Sgt. Robert Blaschke confirmed investigators later identified the suspect as Jeffrey Wilson.
Sheriff’s Office Responds
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said it acted quickly once notified of the criminal investigation.
Deputy Carli Carr stated:
“Because of the seriousness of the allegations, the sheriff’s office terminated Wilson.”
What began as a disturbing incident at a coffee shop has ended with the arrest and firing of a law enforcement officer. Jeffrey Wilson, once trusted to serve and protect, now faces a criminal charge that could damage both his personal and professional life. The case remains under investigation as he awaits his day in court.
