Summerville man wanted for strong-armed robbery surrenders to police after a brief confrontation

A 27-year-old man, Tiquan De’Vonte Harris, was taken into custody on Monday following a brief standoff with law enforcement in North Charleston. Harris was wanted on strong-armed robbery charges in connection with an alleged assault and robbery that occurred on Sunday at a home in West Ashley.

Authorities say Harris allegedly punched an acquaintance multiple times and stole their phone during an incident at a Bantry Circle home.

SWAT Response and Surrender

The North Charleston Police Department’s SWAT team was called to assist after Harris refused to leave a home in the Westcott Chase neighborhood when authorities attempted to serve a warrant around 10:40 a.m. Harris surrendered peacefully to authorities shortly before 1 p.m.

School Precautions and Investigation

As a precautionary measure, nearby schools in Dorchester District Two were placed in a “secure security mode” during the standoff, though the situation has since been resolved. Additional charges may be filed against Harris, police said, as the investigation continues.
