JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Weekend road closures will begin affecting a section of River Road on Johns Island starting February 27. The closures will impact through traffic on River Road between Brownswood Road and Main Road, as crews replace an existing culvert near the intersection as part of ongoing improvements to U.S. 17 and Main Road.
Closure Details and Schedule
From February 27 onward, barricades and detour signage will be in place every Friday starting at 7 p.m., with closures lasting until 6 a.m. the following Monday. During these closures, residents will still have access to their properties. Construction will occur only on weekends and is expected to last multiple weekends due to the complexity of the project.
Impact of Weather and Alternative Routes
If adverse weather conditions or emergencies arise, crews will pause work and reopen the roadways until it is safe to resume. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and allow extra time for travel during the weekend closure periods.
