Human remains discovered in Berkeley County last year have been identified as Charles Litchfield, a Moncks Corner man who had been missing for more than five years. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identification following DNA analysis.

Litchfield was 47 years old when he disappeared in January 2020 from the Moncks Corner area.

Remains Found Near Stoney Landing Road

The skeletal remains were found on June 19, 2025, near Stoney Landing Road, with authorities notified around 5:12 p.m. The coroner’s office responded to the scene along with the Moncks Corner Police Department and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office to recover the remains.

Cause and Manner of Death Undetermined

Although the remains have now been positively identified, officials say the circumstances surrounding Litchfield’s death remain unclear. The coroner’s office has ruled both the cause and manner of death as undetermined, and the investigation remains open.
