North Charleston, South Carolina – The North Charleston Police Department held a ‘Praise in the Community Festival’ on Saturday.
Their mission is to collaborate with the community to prevent violence and promote peace in the city, while also strengthening connections between cops and residents.
Food, music, bouncy houses, and yard games were among the attractions of the ‘Praise in the Community Festival.’ It was one of three events hosted by the North Charleston Police Department under their “Unity in the Community” project.
Captain Tireka Wright stated that Saturday’s event allowed officers to engage in a calm discourse with community members in a non-traditional environment, demonstrating the department’s intention to work with, not against, them.
“We just want the community to know that we hear you, that we are here for you, and that we will continue to try to improve our relationship and work together,” North Charleston Police Department Captain Tireka Wright stated.
Wright noted that developing relationships with local church leaders allows them to better assist those in their neighborhood.
“At St. Matthew Baptist Church, we are located in this core community, and we felt the need to continue partnering with organizations that will keep us safe while also helping us build a better community,” St. Matthew Baptist Church Pastor Calbert Brantley said.
