Police in North Charleston have charged a man after he reportedly intimidated an officer and attempted to kidnap a child.

North Charleston Police arrested 27-year-old Kimani Devaughntez Gandy (also reported as Kimani Gandy) on January 21, 2026, following a late-night home invasion at a Tropicana Road apartment complex. Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. to reports of a suspect breaking a window with a baby stroller while attempting to take his two-year-old daughter from the residence, where he was not allowed due to prior violence.

Incident Details

The child’s mother stated Gandy pounded on the door, ignored warnings about the late hour and cold weather, and cut his hand during the break-in. After detention outside the apartment, Gandy allegedly kicked a patrol officer and threatened two others.

Charges and Custody

He faces first-degree burglary and threatening the life of a public official; initial kidnapping mentions were corrected by police. Gandy was booked into Al Cannon Detention Center, amid a recent wave of Charleston-area arrests including drug busts and vehicle thefts discussed previously.
