Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, opened on January 3, 1976, and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary with a yearlong series of events. A special “Throwback Day” kicks off the festivities today, Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring reduced admission of just $2—the same price charged on opening day.​

Activities include a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m., a celebration cake-cutting at noon with US Naval Sea Cadets, family-friendly activities, special giveaways, historian talks by Colby Causey, and access to the new Charting 50 exhibit showcasing the museum’s history.​
Museum Background
The site honors America’s military heritage through historic vessels like the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, USS Laffey destroyer, and USS Clamagore submarine, drawing over 300,000 visitors annually. Executive Director Allison Hunt emphasized reflecting on service and sacrifice while planning future programming.​
