One person died after a car slammed into a tree on Wadmalaw Island

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash on December 1, 2025, just after 6 p.m. on Black Bears Bluff Road on Wadmalaw Island, where a vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, with identity pending release by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.​​

Investigation Details

CCSO’s Traffic Services Unit is actively investigating the cause of the crash. The public is urged to provide information by calling 843-202-1700. This incident differs from a prior October 17, 2025, fatal crash on Wadmalaw Island at Maybank Highway and Oak Grove Road.
