One individual died in an incident with an 18-wheeler in North Carolina.

A 61-year-old man from Bessemer City died last week after his vehicle struck the rear of a parked 18-wheeler on Interstate 85 in Gastonia.

According to the Gastonia Police Department, the crash occurred Thursday afternoon near Bessemer City Road when the man’s car veered off the roadway and collided with the truck.

Truck Parked Due to Mechanical Issue

Police said the 18-wheeler had been parked on the shoulder because of a mechanical problem. The truck driver had placed reflective warning cones behind the vehicle and was not cited in connection with the crash.

Authorities reported the impact was severe and that the victim was likely killed instantly. The investigation remains ongoing.
