North Charleston, South Carolina – Crime rates in North Charleston continued to fall in September, with police reporting an 11% drop in overall violent offenses.
The most recent figures show considerable reductions in numerous crime categories. Homicides plummeted 38%, while violent assaults fell 9%.
Robberies plummeted 15%, while business robberies fell 72% and personal robberies fell 7%.
Pfc. Josh Silva, North Charleston Crime Prevention Officer, reported a 10% drop in nonviolent crimes overall. Burglaries declined 6% from the same period last year, he said.
Vehicle thefts decreased by 33%, according to the data.
Police officials stated that the new data demonstrates the effectiveness of their crime reduction measures and constructive community collaborations.
The agency has been collaborating with neighborhood groups and other organizations to address crime concerns across the city.
The September numbers follow North Charleston’s recent trend of lowering crime rates. Police have ascribed the gains to targeted policing and expanded community involvement programs.
