ATHENS, GA. — South Carolina’s tough season continued as the Gamecocks suffered another heartbreaking loss to Georgia, falling 9-7 at Foley Field. Despite an early four-run lead, USC (13-16, 1-8 SEC) could not hold on as Georgia (23-6, 7-2) mounted a comeback to sweep the series.
Game Recap: USC vs. Georgia
The Gamecocks started strong, taking a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning. However, the Bulldogs bounced back in the sixth to take the lead.
In the eighth, USC tied the game 7-7 on a solo homer by Jake Randolph, but Georgia regained the lead with an RBI double from Daniel Jackson and an RBI single by Bryce Calloway in the bottom of the inning, ultimately sealing the win.
KJ Scobey was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for USC, while Randolph went 2-for-4 with a homer, walk, stolen base, and two RBIs. Talmadge LeCroy also had a strong performance, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. The Gamecocks finished with 13 hits in the game.
USC’s starting pitcher, Brandon Stone, struggled through 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Western Carolina Dominates The Citadel
Western Carolina (18-11, 3-3 SoCon) defeated The Citadel (12-14, 3-3) with a dominant 16-3 victory in seven innings at Riley Park, securing the series win. Walker Fox’s grand slam in a seven-run second inning helped power the Catamounts, who routed The Citadel in a game ended early by the run rule.
The Bulldogs were limited to just five hits, with TJ Anderson going 1-for-1 with two walks, a triple, and Jayden Williams going 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two stolen bases. Citadel starter Jacob Deacon allowed five runs on two hits and three walks in just one inning.
Campbell Sweeps College of Charleston
In Buies Creek, N.C., Campbell (18-9, 11-1) completed a three-game sweep over College of Charleston (10-17, 5-7 CAA) with a dramatic 3-2 win. Jonah Oster’s walk-off sacrifice fly in the ninth inning drove in the winning run after the Cougars had tied the game in the seventh on a two-run double by Nick Diaz.
CofC starter Carson Bryant allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and seven walks in 5.2 innings, striking out six, while the Camels held on for the win in a tightly contested series finale.
Winthrop Outlasts Charleston Southern in Extra Innings
In Rock Hill, Winthrop (13-11, 5-4 Big South) edged Charleston Southern (17-9, 2-3) 5-4 in 10 innings to complete the series sweep. Corey Wouters was the hero for Winthrop, hitting a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth and a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th.
The Buccaneers had taken a 4-0 lead in the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded three-run double from Lucas Pringle, but Winthrop rallied in the later innings.
Kain Collins and Caden Wolfley each had multiple hits for the Eagles, while Charleston Southern’s starter, Matt Gallant, was in line for the win after allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
