A fatal crash on Nexton Parkway in Berkeley County, South Carolina, on January 30, 2026, involved 21-year-old Enaj B. Vasconcellos from Summerville, who died after driving a stolen 2022 Chevy Malibu into a 2018 Subaru SUV, injuring its driver.

Incident Origin

The vehicle was stolen from a DoorDash driver at a Mr. Fuel on North Main Street; the driver had left it running and unlocked while inside. Law enforcement used OnStar to track it to a Parker’s Kitchen and then a McDonald’s on State Road.

Police Pursuit

Deputies attempted to stop Vasconcellos, and OnStar tried a remote shutdown, but both failed, leading to a chase. He crashed into the Subaru and a light pole, causing fires that deputies fought while providing aid, though he died at the scene.

Victim Details

The Subaru driver, later identified as Mindy Collins, suffered severe injuries including a broken collarbone, femur, right hand, internal bleeding, and swelling; she remained hospitalized. Her family expressed shock, noting she was simply heading to work.
