Multiple warming shelters are opening across the Lowcountry in South Carolina due to forecasted cold temperatures starting Sunday evening.
Hibben Warming Shelter
This shelter in Mount Pleasant operates Sunday and Monday, with potential extensions decided 48 hours ahead. Doors open at 7 p.m., close to new guests after 11 p.m., and require departure by 7 a.m. Transportation is available from Mary Conway Park at 6:45 p.m., with CARTA returns downtown in the morning.​
Seacoast Church Summerville
The center runs Sunday through Tuesday, opening at 7 p.m. nightly and closing at 7 a.m., with takeaway breakfast provided. Pets are permitted, offering support for those without heat.​
Bethel AME Church, St. George
Open Sunday evening through Thursday, December 18, it allows check-in from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with departure by 8 a.m. Meals are available, but pets are not allowed.​
St. Jude’s Church, Walterboro
This shelter operates Sunday through Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., welcoming those experiencing homelessness or lacking heat. No pets or transportation are accommodated.
