Mount Pleasant celebrates completion of the Shem Creek bike lane project.

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – The Town of Mount Pleasant will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday to mark the completion of the Shem Creek bike lanes project.

This will be the town’s first placement of green bike lane pavement markings on Coleman Boulevard.

The lanes and markings aim to improve bike visibility and motorist awareness.

Extensive pedestrian handrails and other safety elements assist the town’s goal to safer, more connected streets.

Construction on the project started in early 2025. The new bike lanes start at Coleman Boulevard and continue across the Shem Creek Bridge.

The ribbon-cutting event is set for 10:00 a.m., near the intersection of Coleman Boulevard and Mill Street.
