Charleston, South Carolina – Volunteers assembled care packages for cancer patients having chemotherapy today at Roper St. Francis.

Patients have a variety of side effects from chemotherapy, including hair loss and severe skin changes. The drive’s purpose is to show cancer patients that they are not alone and to provide them with the necessary support while receiving treatment.

This care drive is in its fourth year, and each year they hope to send more care packages filled with goods specifically meant to provide relief and comfort to patients.

“I think it gives them love and support to let them know they’re not alone in the fight, and that’s the main thing for me,” Chemo Drive organizer Fedelia Rivers said.

One of the volunteers expresses how much it means to the patients to know they are supported.

“I got a phone call actually two phone calls from some patients that received these boxes just to say thank you and they were just so excited to know that somebody really cares enough about them to put the packages together and to come and deliver the packages,” Gwen Simmons, our sales director, told me.

They distributed over 500 parcels this year, with plans to increase the number next year.
