Juvenile suspects accused of breaking into many vehicles caught during traffic stops

Dorchester County, South Carolina — Three youths accused of breaking into at least 10 vehicles in Summerville’s Oakbrook Village Apartments were detained early Monday during a traffic stop, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

Dorchester County deputies were summoned to help the Summerville Police Department respond to active motor vehicle break-ins around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Deputies arrived and found a white Honda Civic with its headlights turned off. Responding officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and continued driving at a slow speed, according to DCSO.

The car ultimately came to a stop at the crossroads of Bentons Lodge Road and Ladson Road, where deputies captured three youths.

Investigators discovered that the car had been stolen from Oakbrook just seconds before, and Summerville police confirmed that the kids were responsible for ten previous break-ins in the vicinity.

“Collaboration with our law enforcement partners is key to keeping our citizens safe,” Sheriff Sam Richardson stated. “This incident is a testament to our strong resolve to work together in order to safeguard the quality of life the people of Dorchester County enjoy.”

The Summerville Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation.
