Berkeley County deputies have arrested a 16-year-old in connection to a homicide that occurred in Pineville. The arrest follows a shooting that led to a deadly vehicle accident on June 19.
Incident Details
Authorities responded to a report of a vehicle accident on Gabe Road shortly after 4:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that the accident occurred after the driver was shot. Sadly, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
Charges Against the Juvenile
The 16-year-old suspect has been charged with several serious offenses, including murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, armed robbery, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Ongoing Investigation
As of now, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has not identified the deceased, and an investigation is ongoing. Sheriff Duane Lewis expressed concern over the increasing violence involving juveniles but reassured the public that justice would be pursued, regardless of the offender’s age.
“I know it is troubling to see the increase of violence from juveniles,” Sheriff Lewis said. “No matter the age of the offender, we will use every available resource to pursue justice. When someone takes a life, they will be held accountable.”
