Charleston-based nonprofit Home Again marked a record-breaking year in 2025, furnishing homes for people transitioning from homelessness. They served 25 children who entered safe, equipped spaces to start fresh, with over 70% of move-ins aiding veterans—honoring the organization’s focus on those who’ve served.
The work goes beyond basics, emphasizing personalized compassion. Highlights included rescuing a veteran’s stored belongings via a donor-paid bill and providing specialized shoes for a long-term client reliant on walking. Beds top requests, often replacing floors or air mattresses for new residents.
Founder’s Story
Founded at age 12 by John Michael Stagliano after seeing empty homes post-homelessness, Home Again now thrives under his leadership. At 22, he’s set to graduate from the College of Charleston in May 2026 with a major in Economics and minor in Computer Science, planning a local career to grow the mission.
Stagliano reflects: “This year brought tears of joy, countless smiles, and powerful reminders of why this work matters. Every bed delivered, every table set, and every home furnished represents hope restored.”
Partnerships and Gratitude
Success stems from collaborators like Second Chance Thrift Shop, Dorchester Presbyterian Church Colonial Bazaar, Summerville Rotary Club, and Charleston RiverDogs, plus donors and volunteers. Home Again partners with vetted shelters for client referrals, ensuring stable, dignified support.
This effort underscores Charleston’s community strength in tackling homelessness through practical aid. Looking ahead, they’re committed to more second chances.
