Hanahan woman identified in fatal Highway 165 crash

A 44-year-old woman from Hanahan, South Carolina, has been identified as the victim of a deadly single-vehicle crash that took place on Sunday evening in Charleston County.

According to Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal, the victim, Latasha Way, died at the scene from severe injuries caused by the collision. The accident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on September 7, 2025, on Highway 165, roughly one mile south of Hyde Park Road.

Vehicle Struck a Tree Off the Road

Deputies from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to the crash after receiving reports of a vehicle that had veered off the roadway and hit a tree. Way was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews from the St. Paul Fire Department and Charleston County EMS also attended the scene to assist in the response.

Investigation Still Ongoing

The case is currently being investigated by both the Charleston County Coroner’s Office and the CCSO Traffic Services Unit. Officials have not yet released details about what may have caused the crash.
