NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – A traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a passenger on drug and firearm charges in North Charleston. The incident began when a North Charleston Police officer pulled over a vehicle after the driver ignored a traffic signal at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and McMillan Avenue.
Marijuana and Stolen Firearm Found During Search
As the officer approached the vehicle, she reported smelling marijuana. The driver admitted to smoking in the car, with a rolled joint found near the driver’s seat. Both the driver and passenger were instructed to exit the vehicle, allowing the officer to conduct a search. During the search, a jar containing a green, plant-like substance was discovered, along with a handgun under the passenger seat. The handgun was later confirmed to have been reported stolen.
Arrest and Charges for Passenger
A criminal background check identified the passenger as 41-year-old Delmonte Grant, who was found to be legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. Grant was arrested and taken to a local detention center, where he faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and simple possession of marijuana.
