North Charleston, S.C. — A routine traffic stop in North Charleston led to a dramatic pursuit and the discovery of a large drug stash hidden in Pop-Tarts bags. The incident occurred on June 28, when North Charleston police spotted a vehicle with illegal window tinting on I-26.
The Pursuit and Arrest
According to the North Charleston Police Department, Officer Clement initiated a traffic stop after observing the vehicle’s illegal windshield and side window tint. Initially, the driver pulled over, but shortly after, the driver fled the scene, initiating a pursuit.
The chase ended when the vehicle rolled over on I-26. After the crash, the driver attempted to flee on foot, but police quickly apprehended him. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Discovery of Drugs
After the driver’s arrest, authorities conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. On the driver’s floorboard, police found a black bag, which contained several drugs hidden inside. Inside the bag, officers found:
15 smaller bags containing green plant material, which tested presumptive for THC (the active compound in marijuana).
A Crown Royal bag that contained:
5.7 grams of a substance presumptive for cocaine.
70 multi-colored tablets that tested presumptive for methamphetamine.
Additionally, the drugs were concealed within Pop-Tarts bags, indicating an attempt to hide the illicit substances.
The Charges
The driver was arrested and faces charges related to the drugs found in the vehicle, along with evading arrest and reckless driving following the pursuit. North Charleston police have not released the driver’s identity at this time, but the discovery highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
