Marina Variety Store Restaurant at 9 Lockwood Drive in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, closed temporarily in early November 2025 for renovations and is reopening as Fin & Crab (also referred to as Finn & Crab) under new ownership by a North Carolina couple. The adjacent bar, Salty Mike’s, will retain its name and continue operating. Much of the original staff, including the executive chef, is expected to stay, preserving the family-style dining atmosphere while adding features like a raw bar.
Breakfast menu items will remain unchanged, but lunch and dinner options will see updates, though specifics were not disclosed. The restaurant, a waterfront staple for over 60 years under previous family ownership by the Altine and Ritter families, was recently acquired amid a lease transfer to Safe Harbor Marinas, a subsidiary of Sun Communities. Renovations include fresh paint, expanded dining space, better marina views, and additional bathrooms to enhance the experience without erasing its Lowcountry traditions.
This transformation addresses community concerns about the iconic spot’s future, with new owners aiming to build on its legacy of fresh seafood, hearty meals, and harbor views that have drawn locals, boaters, and visitors for decades. Reopening is scheduled for this week, maintaining its role as a Charleston dining landmark.
