Charleston, South Carolina — Conditions will momentarily warm on Sunday ahead of a powerful, moisture-rich storm system for the following work week!
Temperatures are predicted to remain stable through early Sunday morning, or even rise a few degrees, as a coastal trough forms. By sunrise Sunday, temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s and 40s inland (around 50° by the coast).
Seasonably high temperatures will return quickly on Sunday, particularly in places east of Interstate 95. Afternoon highs should be in the 60s and low 70s.
Our first cold front may bring a few patchy showers to the Lowcountry between Sunday evening and early Monday morning. Most regions should get drier after sunrise Monday, albeit with increased clouds and lower afternoon temperatures.
A stronger storm system is expected to approach the Carolinas late Monday, resulting in a gradual rise in rain and storm chances by Tuesday morning. According to the most recent model guidance, the likelihood of consistent – and occasionally heavy – rainfall will peak by late Tuesday morning into Tuesday afternoon.
Rainfall is expected to range from 1-2 inches through Tuesday evening, with potential for higher amounts in areas with training thunderstorms.
We’ll get drier on Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for another possible disturbance by next weekend. Temperatures are expected to remain near or below average for the majority of the following week.
