Charleston, South Carolina — According to the Charleston Fire Department, emergency responders were dispatched to a segment of King Street on Friday afternoon to investigate a “possible roof collapse.”
The reported fall occurred at 1001 King Street. On the scene, emergency workers discovered damage to the abandoned building’s external walls. According to emergency officials, firefighters sought to isolate the area, which included Rodney Scott’s BBQ’s outside patio and a small adjoining apartment structure.
There were no injuries recorded immediately following the suspected collapse.
Emergency crews closed King Street in front of the building, and the structure was scheduled to be inspected by fire marshals. Charleston police closed King Street in both directions between Congress and Grove streets to aid the fire department.
Traffic is being redirected onto Rutledge Avenue.
